During the Korean War, Ethiopia, as a member of the UN, dispatched one battalion. The Ethiopians fought in Sanyang-ri of Hwachon, mundeung-ri, Cholwon, and Kanghwa. In order to commemorate their participation and fighting for freedom, this monument was established on May 7, 1968. The Association of UN Participated Nations and the citizens of Chunchon took the initiative in establishing the Monument while the ROK Association of Reservists and the Korean Finance Group donated the cost for construction.
