Monument for the Participation of Medical Support Units

During the period from January 1 to February 28, 1951, the ROK 5th, 6th, and 8th Divisions, the 2st Division, the US 1st Marine Division, the Dutch Battalion, and the French Battalion repelled the aggression of the CCF 37th Corps and the North Korean 5th Corps in the Wonju region, witch was a strategically important place. This monument was established by the Command of the ROK 1st Corps on March 15, 1954, to commemorate their brave achievements, and to respect killed soldiers.

During the Hoengsong region combat from February 12-13 1951, the Dutch forces made many achievements, though a number of soldiers were sacrificed. In order to respect Lieut. Colonel Den Ouden and his soldiers who fought for freedom and peace as a part of UN forces, and died in the war, the Command of the ROK 1st Corps established this monument in June 1968.

In September 1975, the ROK Ministry of Defense established the monument at the Saemal Interchange on the Yongdong Highway, where the Dutch army engaged in the most desperate battle, and suffered the largest casualties including Lieut. Colonel Den Ouden.
