Battle of Hoengseong (1951 2. 12~13)

This was the battle in which the Netherlands Battalion fought against the Chinese Communist surprise attack at Hoengseong while assisting the retreating troops (the U.S. Force and the South Korean Force) from the battle zone. When the South Korean and the U.S. Force were retreating due to the Chinese Communist February Offensive advancement from Hoengseong to Hongcheon on Feb. 12, 1951, this Battalion was assisting the retreat of these forces at Hoengseong.

The condition of the retreat was such that the Netherlands Battalion couldn't tell the friendly force from the enemy. As the night fell, the Chinese Communist Army disguised as the South Korea Force infiltrating the right rear flank of the Battalion and made a surprise attack on the Battalion Headquarters. This attack killed the Battalion commander and paralyzed Battalion command functions. However, after the Heavy Weapon Company commander as a senior member of the unit took the command rights, the Company under his active command and control was able to engage in the battle with the infiltrated enemy and successfully retreated to Wonju by the dawn of Feb. 13.

Armed Forces counteroffensive. The Netherlands Battalion resisted with their heart and soul but the hill fell to the enemys hand. But the Battalion recaptured Hill 548 by launching an attack on the enemy from both flanks with the Battalion's Reserve Company. As a result of this battle, Inje, a strategic key point for future operations, was secured.

Battle of Daewoo Mt. (1951. 7. 15~31)

This was the offensive battle in which the Netherlands Battalion as a member of the U.S. 2nd Division were dispatched to the mid-eastern region near the Daeam Mt. (Hill 1038) - Dosol Mt. (Hill 1148) battle line to capture Daewoo Mt. (Hill 1179), a commanding hill in front of the defense line, and captured Daemeori Mt. (Hill 1120) located to the south of it. This Battalion took over this battle line on Jul. 15 and made a preparation to attack Daewoo Mt. while carrying out a reconnaissance mission. They captured a part of the hill by attacking Daemeori Mt. from the front on Jul. 27 but the attack failed due to the strong resistance of the enemy's defense force and the counterattack of the enemy's reserve force. Around this time, the U.S. Army that was the main force captured Daewoo Mt. on Jul. 29 after launching 4 attacks.
