Meritorious Service Record

Starting in February 1922, Kaneko Fumiko collaborated with Park Yeol to oppose Japanese imperialism.
Around May, she joined the Black Wave Society (黑濤会), and from July, she took on the responsibility of publishing its official journal, Black Wave (黑濤), alongside Park Yeol. In September, she organized the Black Bull Society (黑牛会), promoting ideological research and public speeches while publishing People’s Movement (民衆運動) in Korean. In December, she launched Futoi Senjin (太い鮮人), which was later renamed Present Society (現社會) in March 1923, continuing its publication.
In April 1923, she brought together anarchist activists to form the Furyōsha (不逞社). This organization supported the Hyeongpyeong Movement in Korea and actively backed labor movements, carrying out anti-Japanese resistance based on anarchist principles. Around this time, she collaborated with the Uiyeoldan (義烈團) in a militant resistance effort, planning to smuggle bombs into Tokyo to assassinate the Japanese Emperor and key government officials.
After the Great Kanto Earthquake in September 1923, she was detained at the Setagaya Police Station in Tokyo under the pretext of "protective custody." During interrogation, her involvement in the bomb smuggling plan was revealed, making her a key figure in the so-called High Treason Incident (大逆事件). While imprisoned, she married Park Yeol and openly defended their anti-Japanese activities in court, even shouting for independence during the trial.
On March 25, 1926, the First Special Criminal Division of the Supreme Court sentenced her to death under Article 73 of the Criminal Code (High Treason) and for violating the Explosives Control Ordinance. In April, her sentence was commuted to life imprisonment. However, she passed away in prison, sacrificing her life for the cause.
The South Korean government posthumously awarded her the Order of Merit for National Foundation (Patriotic Medal) in 2018.
