It is my great pleasure to be here with you. I am the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Park Minshik.

먼저, 한국과 멕시코 수교 60주년을 기념하기 위해 마련된 “나는 한국에서 돌아왔다” 특별전 개최를 매우 뜻깊게 생각하며, 진심으로 축하드립니다.

(순차통역) First and foremost, congratulations on the inauguration of the special exhibition “Mexican and Mexican Americans: The Forgotten Soldiers of the Korean War” to mark Korea and Mexico’s 60 Years of Friendship.

의미 있는 특별전을 위해 애써주신 주한 멕시코대사관과 전쟁기념관 관계자 여러분, 그리고 오늘 행사와 참전용사 초청을 후원해 주신 <정탁> 포스코 사장님께 깊이 감사드립니다.

(순차통역) Let me start by thanking the Mexican embassy in Seoul and the War Memorial of Korea for their hard work in organizing this special exhibition. My deep gratitude also goes to Posco President Jeong Tak for kind support in today’s inauguration and inviting Mexican veterans and families to Korea. 

특히 오늘, 72년 전 한국전쟁에 참전하여 이 땅의 자유와 평화를 지켜주신 멕시코 참전용사님 세 분께서 대한민국을 다시 찾아 자리를 빛내주고 계십니다. 

(순차통역) Now I want to bring your attention to three Mexican veterans of the Korean War who return to Korea, the very country that they protected freedom and peace 72 years ago.

이 멀고 낯선 땅, 한 번도 만난 적 없는 국민들을 위해 치열한 전선에 몸을 던지신 참전용사님들께 대한민국 정부와 국민을 대표하여 깊은 존경과 감사의 인사를 드립니다.

On behalf of the government and people of the Republic of Korea, I express my deepest respect and most sincere gratitude to your selfless sacrifice and contribution to defend the country you never heard and to protect the people you never met. 

멕시코 참전용사님들을 한국에 모시는 것은 이번이 처음입니다. 이는 <피게로아> 대사님께서 멕시코 외교부와 주미 멕시코 대사의 도움으로 한국전 참전용사를 찾기 위해 각별히 노력해주신 덕분입니다. 이 자리를 빌려 그간의 노고에 깊이 감사드립니다.

(순차통역) It is the first time for us to welcome Mexican veterans of the Korean War, which is all thanks to the hard work by H.E. Figueroa, the Mexican Foreign Affairs and Korean Ambassador to Mexico to discover and locate Mexican veterans of the Korean War. I want to take this opportunity to thank you all for your efforts to make today’s inauguration possible. 

대한민국 정부는 유엔참전용사들의 고귀한 희생을 기억하고 감사의 마음을 표하기 위해, 재방한 초청 행사 등 다양한 국제보훈사업을 추진하고 있습니다. 

(순차통역) The Korean government implements international projects such as Revisit Korea invitation programs, to remember and thank UN Korean War veterans’ noble sacrifice.  

앞으로도 멕시코 참전용사를 비롯한 유엔참전용사들을 한 분이라도 더 한국으로 초청해 감사의 마음을 전하고, 그 숭고한 인류애를 미래세대에 전하는데 성심을 다하겠습니다.

(순차통역) We will do our best to invite one more UN veterans, including Mexican veterans, to Korea so that we can express our gratitude and teach future generations about your noble humanitarianism.

이번 특별전이 이 땅의 자유를 위해 청춘을 바치신 멕시코 참전용사들의 용기와 투혼을 우리 국민과 미래세대에게 알리는 소중한 계기가 되기를 바랍니다.

(순차통역) I hope that the special exhibition inaugurated today will provide a valuable opportunity to our people and children to learn about the great courage and sacrifice of Mexican veterans who gave their youth in defense of freedom of this land. 

다시 한번, 멕시코 참전용사분들께 깊은 경의를 표하며 이번 한국에서의 시간이 행복한 추억으로 간직되기를 바랍니다. 자리에 계신 모든 분의 건강과 행복을 기원합니다. 감사합니다.
