존경하는 유엔참전용사와 교포 참전용사, 그리고 가족 여러분!
반갑습니다. 대한민국 국가보훈처장 박민식입니다.

72년 전, 자유와 평화 수호를 위해 낯선 땅 대한민국으로 기꺼이 달려와 주신 여러분을 모시고 감사의 자리를 가지게 되어 매우 기쁘게 생각합니다. 

(순차통역) Respected UN and Korean veterans of the Korean War and families! I am the Republic of Korea’s Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, Park Minshik.

It is my great honor and pleasure to host you, who came all the way to a strange country 72 years ago in defense of freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea.

오늘 뜻깊은 자리에 함께해주신 대한민국6.25참전유공자회 <손희원> 회장님, 대한민국재향군인회 <신상태> 회장님, <론니 힙바드> 유엔군작전참모부장님, <마리아 테레사 디존-데베> 주한필리핀 대사님, <알렉산드라 시들> 주한호주부대사님 및 주한 참전국 무관님들을 비롯한 내외 귀빈들께 깊은 감사를 드립니다. 
(순차통역) I would like to take this opportunity to thank President Son Hee-won of the Korean War Veterans Association, President Shin Sang-tea of the Korean Veterans Association, MG Lonnie G. Hibbard, AcofS, UCJ3, H.E. Maria Theresa Dezon-De Vega, Philippine Ambassador to Korea, and Alexandra Siddall, Deputy Head of Mission, Australian Embassy, D.A.s in Seoul and distinguished guests for their presence. 

또한, 대한민국의 평화를 굳건히 지켜나갈 든든한 육사생도와 간호사관생도들도 함께하고 있습니다. 오늘 자리를 빛내주신 모든 분들께 감사의 말씀을 드립니다.

(순차통역) I also want to acknowledge cadets from the Korea Military Academy and the Korean Armed Forces Nursing Academy who will maintain peace on the peninsula. I thank you all for gracing tonight’s event. 

이번 방한 행사는 6·25전쟁 72주년을 맞아 9개국 참전용사와 가족 등 60분이 초청되셨습니다. 오늘 만찬은 우리 정부가 유엔참전용사와 가족분들의 희생과 공헌에 감사드리고자 마련한 자리입니다.

(순차통역) The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs invited 60 Korean War veterans and families of nine countries to mark the 72nd anniversary of the Korean War, and tonight’s dinner is dedicated to thanking and honoring UN veterans and their families for their noble sacrifice and contribution.

<제럴드 셰퍼드> 참전용사님을 비롯한 28분의 참전용사님들은 고령의 연세에도 불구하고 72년 전 당신들이 목숨 걸고 지키신 대한민국을 잊지 않고 찾아주셨습니다.

(순차통역) Among them, I want to bring your attention to 28 veterans including Mr. Gerald Shefferd who have not forgotten and returned to the Republic of Korea they risked all to defend 72 years ago. 

부친과 두 삼촌이 6·25전쟁에 참전하셨고, 본인도 주한미군으로서 DMZ에 복무하셨던 위대한 군인가문의 <데이빗 페나플로>님도 함께하고 계십니다. 

(순차통역) I also want to recognize Mr. David Penaflor from a great military family whose father and two uncles served in the Korean War and who himself served in DMZ as a member of USFK.

그리고 오늘 만 90세 생일을 맞이하신 <심기영> 참전용사님, 다시 찾은 고국에서 기쁜 생일을 맞이하게 되신 것을 진심으로 축하드립니다. 

(순차통역) I would also like to congratulate Mr. Shim Ki-young, a veteran who is celebrating his 90th birthday in his home country today. 

오늘 이 자리의 주인공이며 우리들의 영웅이신 이분들에게 큰 박수를 보내주시기 바랍니다. (박수)

(순차통역) Ladies and gentlemen, please give today’s guests of honor and our heroes, a big hand. 

존경하는 참전용사 여러분!
오늘날 대한민국의 자유와 번영은 여러분을 비롯한 유엔참전용사들의 희생과 공헌 위에 이룩된 것입니다. 

(순차통역) Distinguished guests, 
the freedom and prosperity we enjoy today in the Republic of Korea is built on the noble sacrifice and contribution made by you and your fellow veterans of the Korean War. `

우리 정부는 대한민국을 지킨 영웅들을 기억하고, 그 숭고한 희생정신과 인류애를 미래 세대에게 계승하며, 보훈외교를 통해 참전국과의 우정을 더욱 굳건히 할 수 있도록 성심을 다하겠습니다.

(순차통역) Our government will remember these heroes who saved the Republic of Korea, and we will do our best to pass their noble sacrifice and legacy of humanitarianism onto next generations and further promote the friendships with the Sending States through veterans’ diplomacy. 

다시 한번 유엔참전용사와 교포 참전용사분들께 깊은 경의를 표하며, 이번 한국에서의 시간이 행복한 추억으로 간직되기를 바랍니다. 자리에 함께하신 모든 분의 건강과 행복을 기원합니다. 감사합니다. 

(순차통역) Once again, I express my deepest respect to UN and Korean veterans of the Korean War and I wish your time in Korea to be cherished as happiest memories. I wish everyone here good health and great happiness.
