Honorable descendants of independence activists!
It is a pleasure to meet you all on my first day in office as Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
취임 후 첫 일정으로, 조국 광복을 위해 일평생 헌신하셨던 독립유공자의 후손 여러분을 이렇게 뵙게 되어 정말 기쁩니다.
I am sincerely delighted that my new job has brought me to the descendants of independence activists who dedicated their lives to the liberation of our nation.
3·1운동과 대한민국임시정부 수립 100주년이자, 광복 74주년을 맞아 한국을 찾아주신 여섯 개 나라 서른여섯 분의 후손 여러분께 깊이 감사드립니다.
I would like to extend my wholehearted gratitude to the 36 descendants from six countries who have come to the Republic of Korea on the occasion of the centenary of the March 1 Independence Movement and the establishment of the Provisional Government of Korea, as well as the 74th Anniversary of National Liberation.
어제 독립유공자 포상을 받으신 고(故) 홍재하 선생님의 아드님이자 독립운동 선양 공로자로 초청되신 장 자크 홍푸안님도 자리에 함께하고 계십니다.
초청에 응해주셔서 감사합니다.
With us today is Mr. Jean-Jacques Hong Fuan, the son of the late Mr. Hong Jae-ha who posthumously received the National Medal under the Order of Merit for National Foundation yesterday. Mr. Hong Fuan has also made distinguished contribution to commemorating the independence movement.
Thank you for gracing this function with your presence.
독립유공자 후손 여러분,
여러분의 선조들께서는 조국독립을 위한 길이 고난의 가시밭길 인줄 알면서도 기꺼이 그 길을 걸으셨습니다.
독립운동조직 결성과 항일공작활동, 독립자금 지원을 비롯해 방법은 달랐지만 모든 분들이 민족의 영웅이셨습니다.
Descendants of independence activists!
Your ancestors knew well that they must endure great ordeals for the noble cause of Korea's independence. However, it did not dampen their sense of duty.
The independence activists engaged in organizing independence movement groups, anti-Japanese spying operations, and delivering funds for independence movements. They played different roles, but they were all our nation's heroes.
조금 전 밝힌 불꽃처럼, 국내 뿐 아니라 머나 먼 해외에서도 불굴의 항일의지로 독립을 외치며 조국의 미래를 밝히는 등불이셨습니다.
Just like the candle that I lighted, your ancestors, who cried for our nation's independence in foreign countries with a strong commitment to bring an end to the Japanese colonial rule, were the shining light that brightened our future.
그 숭고한 희생과 헌신으로 대한민국은 마침내 광복을 쟁취해 냈으며, 이를 토대로 세계가 주목하는 경제성장과 민주화를 이뤄낼 수 있었습니다.
Their noble sacrifice and contribution finally brought us liberation from Japan, and Korea was able to achieve economic growth and democratization that the world marveled at.
저는 이 자리를 빌려 조국 독립을 위해 수많은 피땀을 흘리셨던 독립유공자들께 머리 숙여 존경과 감사를 드립니다.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest respect and appreciation to the independence activists who shed their blood and sweat for the independence of our nation.
대한민국은 여러분 선조들께서 보여주신 희생과 헌신, 그 뜨거운 애국심을 결코 잊지 않겠습니다.
지금까지 그러했듯이 앞으로의 대한민국 역사에서도 영원히 기억되고 계승될 것 입니다.
The Republic of Korea will never forget the sacrifice and contribution your ancestors made, and the dedicated patriotism they displayed. Their noble deeds have remained and will continue to remain engraved in the history of Korea.
특히, 선조들께서 그토록 꿈꾸셨던 ‘평화와 번영의 한반도’를 실현해 ‘전정한 광복의 완성’을 이룰 수 있도록 최선을 다하겠습니다.
여러분께서도 많은 관심과 성원을 보내주시길 부탁드립니다.
In particular, by ushering in a new era of peace and prosperity on the Korean Peninsula just as your ancestors longed for, we will put our utmost effort to complete the work they commenced to bring a full-fledged independence to Korea. I ask for your continued interest and support.
다시 한 번 조국 독립을 위해 온몸을 바치신 선조들께 경의를 표하며, 후손 여러분께도 진심으로 감사드립니다.
비록 짧은 기간이지만, 이번 한국에서의 시간이 여러분께 소중한 추억으로 간직되시길 희망합니다.
I would like to pay my deepest respect once again to the ancestors who risked their lives for our nation's independence and extend my appreciation to the descendants. I hope that the memories of your short visit to Korea are long cherished in your hearts.
