6·25전쟁 참전 미국군 전사·실종장병 추모식 추모사
오늘 우리는 6·25전쟁에서 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 위해 희생하신 미국군 전사, 실종 장병 분들을 추모하기 위해 이 자리에 함께하고 있습니다.
Today, we are gathered here to remember and honor the U.S. fallen heroes who, during the Korean War, sacrificed their lives for the freedom and peace of the Republic of Korea.
먼저, 낯선 대한민국을 지키기 위해 참혹한 전선에 뛰어드셨던 미국군 전사자와 실종 장병들께 경의를 표하며, 머리 숙여 명복을 빕니다.
First and foremost, I would like to express my respect to the U.S. fallen heroes who fought for the Republic of Korea, which was then an unknown country, on the brutal front lines of war. May they rest in peace.
긴 세월 사랑하는 가족들을 가슴에 묻어오신 유가족 분들께는 진심어린 위로의 말씀을 드립니다.
To the family members of the fallen who have long cherished the memory of their loved ones, I would like to express my sincere condolences.
또한, 바쁘신 중에도 오늘 추모식에 함께해주신 켄 윌스박 주한미군부사령관님과 안젤라 커윈 주한미국대사관 차석대리님, 김영수 전몰군경유족회장님, 송진원 6‧25참전유공자회 부회장님, 심호명 담제기념보훈사업회장님, 한미친선협회장님들을 비롯한 내외귀빈 여러분께도 감사말씀 드립니다.
I would also like to extend my appreciation to Lieutenant General Kenneth Wilsbach, the Deputy Commander of the United States Forces Korea, Ms. Angela Kerwin, the Acting Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Korea, President Kim Young Su of the Korean War Bereaved Families Association, Vice Chairman Song Jin Won of the Korean War Veterans Association, Chairman Shim Ho Myung of DAMJAE-Friends of Korean War Veterans, Presidents and Chairmen of Korea-US Friendship Organizations and other distinguished guests for joining us today despite their busy schedule.

저는 지난해 8월, 워싱턴 D.C.를 방문해 6·25참전 미국군 실종 장병 유가족 분들을 만나 뵈었습니다.
Honorable families of the U.S. Korean War heroes!
In August last year, I visited Washington D.C. and met with the family members of the U.S. servicemen, missing from the Korean War.
저희가 준비한 위로연에 많은 유가족 분들이 참석해주셨고, 돌아오지 못한 가족에 대한 그리움으로 눈물을 흘리셨습니다.
그 눈물을 보며 저 역시 큰 슬픔과 책임감을 느꼈습니다.
Many of the family members joined us at a function the Ministry had prepared to console them and they shed tears of yearning for their loved ones who had not been able to return home.
Witnessing the tears, I also felt great sorrow and a strong sense of responsibility.
한미 양국은 한국전에서 전사하신 분들의 유해를 발굴하여 하루 빨리 가족의 품으로 돌려보내드리기 위해 많은 노력을 기울이고 있습니다.
The Republic of Korea and the United States are endeavoring to recover the remains of the fallen heroes of the Korean War and return them home to their family as early as possible.
이분들의 유해가 조국으로 돌아가는 날, 모든 정성을 다해 배웅해드릴 것을 약속드립니다.
I am committed to properly honoring the remains of the fallen heroes and rendering our final salutes to them on the day we send them back home.
대한민국 국민들은 참전용사 분들의 투혼이 오늘날의 눈부신 발전을 이끌어낸 토대였다는 것을 잊지 않고 있습니다.
앞으로 미래 세대들도 영원히 기억하고 기릴 수 있도록 하겠습니다.
The people of the Republic of Korea never forget that the gallantry of the Korean War heroes laid the foundation for the brilliant achievements of the nation today.
Efforts will also be made to encourage our future generation to remember and honor them.
내년은 6·25전쟁 70주년입니다.
모든 참전용사와 유가족 여러분께 큰 위로가 될 수 있도록 철저히 준비하겠습니다.
The coming year marks the 70th anniversary of the Korean War.
The Ministry has entered into full-fledged preparations to provide comfort and healing to all veterans and family members of the fallen heroes.
다시 한 번 한국전에서 희생되신 미국 참전용사 분들의 희생과 공헌에 깊은 존경과 감사를 드리며, 영원한 안식을 기원합니다.

Once again, I would like to express my deepest respect and appreciation to the U.S. Korean War heroes for their sacrifice and contribution and I pray for the repose of the souls of the deceased heroes.
