  존경하는 네덜란드 참전용사 여러분, 평창 동계올림픽 참석 차 특별히 방한하신 마크 루테(Mark Rutte) 네덜란드 총리님, 그리고 로디 엠브레흐츠(Rody Embrechts) 네덜란드 대사님과 최문순 강원 도지사님을 비롯한 내외 귀빈 여러분!

(순차통역) Honored Dutch veterans of the Korean War, H.E. Mark Rutte, Dutch Prime Minister who is with us on the occasion of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Ambassador Rody Embretchs, Governor Choi Moonsoon of Gangwon province, and distinguished guests,

  오늘 우리는 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 수호하기 위해 헌신하신 네덜란드 참전용사들의 숭고한 희생과 공헌을 기리고자 이 자리에 모였습니다.

Today we are here to honor the Dutch veterans of the Korean War for their ultimate sacrifice and great contribution to defending our freedom and peace.

  먼저, 우리 대한민국 국민들의 생존과 안녕을 위해 싸우다 이역만리 한국의 횡성에서 산화하신 네덜란드 부대원들께 깊은 애도의 뜻을 표합니다.

 

First and foremost, I wish to pay tribute and express my condolences to those Dutch soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the fierce battle here in Hoengseong, in the foreign land far away from their home, while defending our people's lives and our peace.

  횡성전투는 중공군의 공세에 맞서 싸운 가장 치열했던 전투였으며, 부대원들을 지휘하던 오우덴(Den Ouden)대대장이 전사하는 등 큰 피해에도 불구하고 아군의 철수를 엄호하여 우리 국민들의 생명을 지켜 주었습니다.

The battle of Hoengseong was one of the most intense battle against the Chinese communist, in which the Dutch commander, Lt. Col. den Ouden was killed with his fellow soldiers, covering the retreat of the Korean and US forces and saving the lives of Korean people.

  생사를 오가는 전장에서 투혼을 발휘한 네덜란드 참전용사들 덕분에 오늘의 대한민국은 세계 평화의 축제인 평창 동계 올림픽의 개최국으로 성장할 수 있었습니다.

Thanks to their noble sacrifice and gallantry, today's Republic of Korea is a proud host of the Winter Olympics, the world peace festival.

  어디에 있는 지도 모르고 한 번도 본 적 없는 우리 대한민국 국민을 위해 이 땅에서 장렬하게 산화하신 참전용사들께 다시 한 번 감사드립니다. 우리 대한민국은 참전용사들이 보여 주었던 큰 사랑과 용기를 계승하여 한반도 평화, 나아가 세계 평화를 지켜 가겠습니다.

Taking this opportunity, I want to express my sincere appreciation to the Dutch veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice to fight for the people they never met in the country they never heard. With the veterans' great love and courage, the Republic of Korea will maintain peace on the Korean peninsula, and beyond the world.

  앞으로도 양국의 동반자 관계가 더욱 발전하기를 기대하며 횡성전투 추모식에 함께 해주신 모든 분들의 건강과 행복을 기원합니다.

I hope that the partnership between our two countries will further develop, and wish everyone here good heath and great happiness.
