친애하는 유엔군 모범장병 여러분!
오늘 여러분을 이렇게 만나 뵙게 되어 정말 반갑습니다.
(순차통역) United Nations Command service members! It is a great pleasure to meet all of you this evening.
고국을 떠나 이곳 대한민국에서 한반도 평화정착과 안정을 위해 애쓰시는 장병 여러분께 우리 정부와 국민을 대표해 진심으로 감사와 격려의 말씀을 드립니다.
(순차통역) I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the UNC service members who left their homes for the Republic of Korea to help establish permanent peace and promote stability on the Korean Peninsula.
항상 대한민국에 애정을 갖고 계신 로버트 에이브람스 사령관님께서도 자리에 함께 해주셨습니다. 감사합니다.
(순차통역) UNC Commander General Robert Abrams, who always has a deep affection for Korea, has joined us today. Thank you, General.
대한민국과 유엔군의 소중한 인연은 내년이면 70년을 맞게 됩니다.
(순차통역) The precious ties between the Republic of Korea and the UN forces mark its 70th anniversary in the coming year.
69년 전, 한국전쟁이 발발하자 유엔은 ‘국제 평화와 안전 보장을 위한 모든 지원’을 권고하는 유엔군 참전결의문을 발표했습니다.
(순차통역) When the Korean War broke out 69 years ago, the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution recommending the members of the United Nations to furnish assistance to the Republic of Korea to restore international peace and security in the area.
이에 따라 여러분의 선배인 195만 유엔군들은 낯선 땅, 낯선 나라의 국민들을 지키기 위해 대한민국으로 향했고, 포화가 빗발친 전장에서 목숨을 걸고 싸웠습니다. 그리고 많은 선배들이 안타깝게 희생되셨습니다.
(순차통역) 1,950,000 UN troops headed to the Republic of Korea to protect the people of the land unknown and fought in the battlefields while risking their lives in the hail of bullets. Sadly, many were sacrificed during the war.
또한, 전쟁 후에도 유엔군을 비롯한 주한 미군이 굳건한 안보태세를 유지하면서 한반도는 평화와 안정을 유지할 수 있었습니다.
(순차통역) In addition, thanks to the UN forces and United States Forces Korea service members who helped maintain a firm security posture even after the war, the Korean Peninsula was able to enjoy peace and stability.
이처럼 유엔참전용사와 여러분들의 희생과 투혼으로 지켜낸 자유와 평화는 오늘날 대한민국의 경제성장과 수준 높은 민주화를 이루는 토대가 됐습니다.
(순차통역) As such, freedom and peace that the UN Korean War veterans and you safeguarded with your sacrifice and gallantry laid a foundation for the remarkable economic growth and mature democracy that the Republic of Korea enjoys today.
대한민국 정부는 매년 한국전쟁 정전 협정일인 7월 27일을 ‘유엔군 참전의 날’로 지정해 그 숭고한 희생과 공헌을 기리고 있습니다.
이와 함께 유엔참전용사와 유가족, 후손들을 한국으로 초청하고, 또 그분들이 살고계신 곳으로 찾아가서 감사의 뜻을 직접 전하고 있습니다.
(순차통역) The government of the Republic of Korea has designated July 27 as the UN Forces Participation Day to honor the noble sacrifice and contribution of the UN Korean War veterans. Furthermore, we not only invite veterans, their family members, and descendants to Korea but also visit them in their countries to express our appreciation.
우리는 여러분 선배들께서 보여주셨던, 그리고 여러분이 실천하고 계신 뜨거운 인류애의 손길을 결코 잊지 않을 것입니다.
(순차통역) We will never forget the love for humanity that your predecessors displayed, and the warm helping hands you extend.
저는 대한민국과 여러분의 소중한 인연이 앞으로도 계속될 것으로 믿습니다.
(순차통역) I firmly believe that our friendship will last for generations to come.
오늘 이 자리는 대한민국 안보와 한반도 평화유지를 위해 수고가 많으신 여러분께 감사하는 의미로 마련했습니다.
그동안의 노고는 잠시 잊고 즐거운 저녁 시간되시기 바랍니다.
(순차통역) Today's dinner is hosted in honor of the UNC service members who work hard to strengthen the security of the Republic of Korea and promote continued peace on the Korean Peninsula. I hope you can take your mind off your duties for a while and fully enjoy the dinner.
