2019 국제보훈워크숍에 함께해 주신 여러분! 반갑습니다.
각 나라의 보훈정책 교류와 역량강화를 위한 국제보훈워크숍 개최를 매우 뜻 깊게 생각하며, 자리에 함께하신 모든 분들을 진심으로 환영합니다.
Participants of the 2019 International Workshop on Veterans Affairs! We are gathered here today on this meaningful occasion to share each nation's veteran policies and strengthen our capabilities in supporting our veterans. It is a true pleasure for me to welcome all of you.
오늘 이 자리에는 특별한 분들을 모셨습니다.
뉴질랜드 <버나딘 매킨지> 보훈처장님과 <섀론 캐버나>님, <스테파니 슬레이터>님, 미국 보훈부 제대군인의료청 <페니 네카니키>님과 제대군인지원청 <제인 체>님께서 참석하셨습니다.
또한, 호주 보훈부 <레베카 도일>님, <사라 케네디>님, 캐나다 보훈부 <페이스 매킨타이어>님, <레이첼 린지>님께서도 자리에 함께 하셨습니다.
먼 길 와주신 여러분께 정말 감사드립니다.
Let me introduce our special guests. Ms. Bernadine Mackenzie, Head of Veterans' Affairs, Ms. Sharon Cavanagh, and Ms. Stephanie Slater from Veterans' Affairs New Zealand, Ms. Penny Nechanicky of Veterans Health Administration, and Ms. Jane Che of Veterans Benefits Administration from the US Department of Veterans Affairs have joined us today. We also have Ms. Rebecca Doyle and Ms. Sarah Kennedy from Department of Veterans' Affairs Australia, and Ms. Faith McIntyre and Ms. Rachael Lindsay from Veterans Affairs Canada here with us. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to everyone for travelling from afar.
그리고 이번 워크숍 축하와 주제발표, 토론 등을 위해 참석해주신 국방부와 군 관계자, 국내 전문가를 비롯해 ROTC와 대학생 여러분께도 감사말씀 드립니다.
In addition, I would like to express my gratitude to the officials from the Ministry of National Defense, military personnel, and experts for joining us to congratulate the opening of the workshop and engage in presentations and discussions. I would also like to thank the Reserve Officers' Training Corps and university students for their attendance.
올해로 열다섯 번째를 맞는 국제보훈워크숍은 각 나라의 보훈정책 발전을 위한 소통과 교류의 장 역할을 하고 있습니다.
참가국의 보훈정책 소개는 물론 보훈심사 체계와 보훈대상자 취업, 교육, 의료지원 등 전반에 대한 심도 있는 토론으로 보훈제도의 내실을 기해 왔습니다.
The International Workshop on Veterans Affairs, which marks its 15th anniversary this year, is a platform for active communication and exchanges aimed at improving veteran policies in each participating nation. At the workshop, participants are able to get a glimpse of veteran policies in each nation and will be able to engage in in-depth discussions regarding veterans entitlement system, as well as employment, education, and medical support.
특히, 한국전쟁으로 혈맹 관계를 맺은 소중한 인연에서 출발해, 이제는 보훈의 미래를 함께 고민한다는 점에서 큰 의미가 있다 할 수 있습니다.
In particular, the workshop is all the more meaningful since nations with an alliance forged in blood in the Korean War are now gathering their insights to bring a brighter future for the veterans.

대한민국 정부는 ‘국가를 위한 헌신을 잊지 않고 보답하는 나라’를 국정과제로 채택하고, 모든 국가유공자를 끝까지 예우하기 위해 최선을 다하고 있습니다.
Distinguished guests! One of the national agenda of the government of the Republic of Korea is to become a nation that does not forget those who served for the country and returns their favor. We are focusing all of our efforts on honoring each and every one of the veterans.
오늘의 대한민국, 오늘의 미국, 캐나다, 호주, 그리고 뉴질랜드는 각각의 고유한 역사 속 수많은 분들의 희생과 헌신 위에 서 있습니다.
그러므로 그 헌신을 기억하고 예우하는 것은 국가와 국민, 모든 사회공동체의 당연한 의무인 것입니다.
The Republic of Korea, the United States of America, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand that we know today stands on the sacrifice and contribution of countless numbers of people in different chapters of each nation's history. Therefore, it is our moral duty to remember and honor them as an individual citizen, a community, and a nation.
국제보훈워크숍 역시 보다 나은, 보다 미래 지향적인 보훈제도를 모색함으로써 이러한 의무를 다하기 위한 노력의 하나입니다.
The International Workshop on Veterans Affairs is organized as part of an effort to fulfill this duty by seeking better, future-oriented veteran policies.
모쪼록, 이번 워크숍이 우리의 보훈제도가 한 단계 더 도약하고, ‘보훈’을 중심으로 참가국과의 교류협력이 더욱 공고해지는 계기가 되길 기대합니다.
I hope the workshop will enable our veteran policies to take another leap forward and further strengthen participating countries' mutual exchanges and cooperation in honoring the veterans.
다시 한 번 워크숍에 참석해 주신 여러분께 진심으로 감사드리며, 모든 분들의 건강과 행복을 기원합니다. 감사합니다.
