존경하는 네덜란드 참전용사와 가족 여러분!
69년 전, 대한민국을 지키기 위해 목숨을 걸고 싸우셨던 참전용사 여러분과 가족 분들을 이렇게 만나 뵙게 되어 정말 기쁘게 생각합니다.
제법 쌀쌀해진 날씨에도 불구하고 발걸음을 해주신 여러분, 진심으로 감사합니다.
Honorable Dutch Korean War veterans and family members! It is my great pleasure to meet those who put lives on the line to protect the Republic of Korea 69 years ago and your family members. I would like to extend my sincere gratitude for joining us today despite the chilly weather.
이 자리에는 앙크 베레벨드 슈텐 네덜란드 국방부장관님과 쥬디쓰 보크호브 로테르담시 부시장님, 이윤영 주네덜란드 대사님께서도 함께해 주셨습니다. 감사합니다.

I would also like to express my appreciation to Commander Yang Minsoo of the 2019 ROK Navy Cruise Training Task Group and cadets who have organized tonight's dinner inviting the Korean War veterans and family members.
저는 지난 8월 대한민국 국가보훈처장으로 취임한 뒤, 이번에 처음으로 유엔참전국 방문 일정을 갖게 되었습니다.
한국에서 오는 비행시간 내내, 그리고 어제 룩셈부르크에서 이곳 네덜란드로 오면서 참전용사 여러분을 뵌다는 생각에 무척 설레었습니다.
This is my first time visiting a UN sending state after my appointment as the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs in August. The thought of meeting all of you in person made me very excited during my flight from Luxemburg yesterday.
또 한편으론, 69년 전 오늘을 떠올렸습니다.
1950년 10월 25일은 네덜란드 참전용사들께서 대한민국 부산을 향해 로테르담 항구를 출발하기 하루 전입니다.
출발을 하루 앞두고 용사들과 가족 분들은 ‘무사귀환’을 약속하고, 또 간절한 마음을 담아 눈물의 기도를 하셨을 것입니다.
And at the same time, I thought about October 25 69 years ago. October 25, 1950 was a day before the Dutch Korean War veterans left for the Republic of Korea from the port of Rotterdam. The veterans would have promised their family members that they will return home safe and sound, desperately praying in tears.
그렇게 사랑하는 가족을 뒤로하고 대한민국에 도착한 용사들은 횡성전투 등 수많은 전장에서 투혼을 발휘하며 혁혁한 공을 세웠습니다.
Leaving their loved ones behind, the veterans arrived in the Republic of Korea and made decisive contributions in many battles including the Battle of Hoeng Seong.
처음 발을 딛는 낯선 땅, 포화가 빗발치는 전쟁터에서 어찌 두렵지 않으셨겠습니까. 그러나 여러분께선 대한민국의 자유와 평화를 지키겠다는 투철한 사명감으로 이를 극복하셨습니다.
They must have feared the war that broke out on a foreign land, a land that was stricken by a hail of bullets. Nonetheless, it was your strong sense of duty for peace that helped you overcome the fear.
크나 큰 희생도 있었습니다.
오천 삼백여 분의 네덜란드 용사 중 안타깝게도 백이십 분이 소중한 목숨을 잃었고, 육백 마흔다섯 분이 부상을 당하는 아픔을 겪어야 했습니다.
Sadly, the Netherlands suffered heavy casualties. Among 5,300 Dutch soldiers, 120 were killed in action, and 645 were injured in the battles.
저는 이 자리를 빌려, 전쟁의 위기에서 대한민국을 지켜주신 영웅 분들께 깊은 경의를 표하며, 사랑하는 가족을 잃고 오랜 세월 아픔을 간직해 오신 유가족 분들께도 진심어린 위로를 드립니다.
I would like to take this opportunity to express my deepest respect to our heroes who risked their lives protecting the Republic of Korea from the war. In addition, I would like to convey my deepest sympathies to the family members who had to endure an unbearable pain after losing their loved ones.
대한민국 정부와 국민들은 네덜란드를 비롯해 스물두 개 나라 유엔참전용사 분들의 피와 땀으로 지켜낸 자유와 평화 덕분에
오늘의 경제성장과 민주화를 이뤄냈음을 결코 잊지 않겠습니다.
The government and people of the Republic of Korea will always remember that the freedom and peace preserved by the blood and sweat the UN Korean War veterans shed served as a cornerstone of the remarkable economic growth and democratization that we enjoy today.
가장 힘들었던 시절, 전쟁으로 고통받는 나라의 국민들을 외면하지 않고 따뜻한 손길을 내밀어 주셨던 여러분을 앞으로의 대한민국 역사에서도 영원히 기억하겠습니다.
Korean War veterans, who extended warm helping hands to the people of a country ravaged by war, will remain engraved in the history of the Republic of Korea.
내년은 6·25전쟁이 일어난 지 70년이 되는 해입니다.
오늘의 대한민국을 있게 한 모든 유엔참전용사 분들의 희생과 공헌을 더욱 널리 알릴 수 있도록 정성을 다하겠습니다.
The coming year marks the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War. We will make wholehearted efforts to further spread the values of each and every Korean War veteran's sacrifice and contribution.
다시 한 번 전쟁으로부터 대한민국을 지켜주신 영웅과 그 영웅을 기꺼이 보내주신 가족 분들께 깊은 존경과 감사를 드립니다.
여러분과 함께하고 있는 로테르담의 아름다운 오늘밤이 저에게는 무한한 영광이자 기쁨입니다. 감사합니다.
I would like to express my deepest respect and appreciation once again to the Korean War veterans and their family members who willingly sent their loved ones to the Republic of Korea to safeguard a country engulfed in war. It is a great privilege and honor to enjoy this beautiful night of Rotterdam with you. Thank you.
