유엔참전용사 국제추모일을 맞아 이곳 부산에서 여러분을 모시는 자리를 갖게 되어 매우 영광스럽고 기쁘게 생각합니다.
머나 먼 한국을 찾아주신 열일곱 개 나라의 참전용사와 가족 여러분께 깊이 감사드리며, 진심으로 환영합니다.
(순차통역) Honorable UN Korean War veterans and family members! It is my great honor and pleasure to host this luncheon here in Busan, on the occasion of the Turn Toward Busan International Memorial Day. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation and welcome to the UN Korean War veterans and family members from 17 nations for travelling from afar to visit the Republic of Korea.
오늘 여러분을 환영하기 위해 마이클 대나허 주한캐나다 대사님과 슈테판 아우어 주한독일 대사님, 스튜어트 캠벨 메이어 유엔군 부사령관님, 오거돈 부산광역시장님, 유경현 대한민국 헌정회장님, 지갑종 유엔한국참전국협회장님, 박수용 대한민국팔각회 총재님께서 자리해 주셨습니다. 감사합니다.
(순차통역) I would like to express my gratitude to Ambassador Michael Danagher of Canada, Ambassador Stephan Auer of Germany, Deputy Commander Stuart Mayer of United Nations Command, Mayor Oh Keo-don of Busan Metropolitan City, President Yoo Kyung Hyun of the Parliamentarians' Society of the Republic of Korea, Chairman Chi Gapjong of the UN Korean War Allies Association, President Park Su Yong of Palgakhoe for joining us today in welcoming the UN Korean War veterans and family members.
이곳 부산은 69년 전, 참전용사들께서 대한민국을 지키기 위해 가장 먼저 발을 내딛은 곳입니다.
저의 고향이기도 한 부산은, 오전에 찾으셨던 유엔기념공원은 물론 푸른 바다가 어우러진 대한민국 제2의 도시이자 제1의 무역항입니다.
(순차통역) This city is where the UN Korean War veterans first set foot 69 years ago to protect the Republic of Korea. Busan is also my hometown. But at the same time, it is the second largest city in this country where the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Korea that you visited this morning is located. It is also a city with beautiful blue ocean and in fact, it is the largest trade port in the Republic of Korea.
참전용사 여러분 기억 속의 부산과 오늘 보신 부산의 모습이 몰라보게 달라져있어 감회가 새로우셨을 것이라 생각됩니다. 또한, 69년 전 부산을 찾으셨을 때의 마음가짐과 오늘의 감정 역시 많이 다르셨을 것입니다.
(순차통역) It must have been a big surprise for you, now that Busan looks completely different from how you used to remember it in the past. In the same respect, the rush of emotions that you had when you arrived in Busan 69 years ago must be very different from those that you encountered today.
이는 바로 여러분께서 지켜주신 자유와 평화가 있었기에 가능한 것이라고 생각합니다. 다시 한 번 진심으로 감사드립니다.
(순차통역) The progress that Korea made was only possible thanks to the freedom and peace that you preserved. I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to you once again.
존경하는 참전용사와 가족 여러분!
저는 지난 8월 대한민국 국가보훈처장으로 취임한 뒤, 지난달 처음으로 유엔참전국인 룩셈부르크와 네덜란드를 방문했습니다.
(순차통역) Honorable Korean War veterans and family members! After my appointment as the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs of Korea in August, I visited Luxembourg and the Netherlands, both UN sending states, for the first time.
그리고 그곳에서 만난 참전용사들께서 저를 따뜻하게 맞아 주신 것에 큰 감사함을 느꼈습니다.
그 분들의 희생과 헌신에 감사를 드리기 위해 방문했는데, 오히려 제 손을 잡고 먼 곳까지 찾아줬다며 더 많은 고마움을 표현해 주셨습니다.
(순차통역) And I felt very grateful for the warm welcome that the Korean War veterans there had given me. I visited their nations to deliver Korea's appreciation for their sacrifice and service, but rather was deeply moved by Korean War veterans holding my hands and thanking me for flying long hours to visit them.
저는 용사님들의 따뜻한 손을 잡으면서 앞으로도 그 온기를 잊지 않겠다고 다짐했습니다. 그리고 오늘 여러분을 뵙고 나니 더욱 큰 책임감을 느낍니다.
(순차통역) As I was holding their hands, I promised to myself that I would never forget the warmth I felt from the veterans that day. And seeing all of you here today, I feel that I have greater responsibilities to take on.
대한민국은 스물두 개 참전국, 그리고 여러분과 맺은 소중한 인연을 더욱 확대·발전시켜, 우리의 후손들도 그 우정을 함께 나눌 수 있도록 노력하겠습니다.
(순차통역) The Republic of Korea will continue our endeavors to expand and strengthen the precious ties that we share with the 22 UN sending states and ensure this friendship is passed on to our future generations.
모쪼록 오늘, 그리고 남은 한국에서의 시간이 여러분께 의미있고 행복한 추억으로 간직되시길 소망합니다.
